Following the firebomb attack in Thessaloniki, New Democracy has decided it has found the issue that will save it from electoral defeat: Who are the murderers? The opposition parties that "create a toxic climate" with their accusations, or Mitsotakis and his ministers, who "are doing everything to save the country"?

It is truly worth answering both sides of this electoral dilemma.

The murderers are Mitsotakis and Dendias, who stand alongside Netanyahu and Trump in the genocide of the Palestinians and the war crimes in Iran and Lebanon. Thousands of women and children have been killed in Gaza, and alongside them the young schoolgirls of Iran have been among the victims since the very first day of the bombings.

The murderers are Mitsotakis and Karamanlis, who rushed—and continue to rush—to cover up their crime at Tempi. Mitsotakis and Plevris, who continue the war against refugees and migrants alongside the 650 dead of Pylos. The entire government bears responsibility for the lives lost every day in workplace "accidents," as its ministers dismantle every inspection and protection service, from Violanta to Elliniko.

A Hated Government

The accusation that the opposition is creating a toxic climate through its denunciations is outrageous. The government is hated because of its crimes, and people have taken to the streets again and again to denounce it. In every case, the parliamentary opposition has reacted late and hesitantly. It was the people who first took to the streets over Tempi; only afterward came the speeches in parliamentary committees. Protesters were surrounding the Israeli embassy while the parliamentary opposition was still talking about "Israel's right to self-defense." Silence over Pylos, oblivion regarding the women workers killed at Violanta.

Mitsotakis wants to pressure Tsipras and Androulakis into cooperating in order to isolate the "extremist elements" of the extra-parliamentary Left. That is all the more reason to insist on united action by the entire Left in the struggle against this government of murderers.

We are not in some calm election period. We are carrying forward the struggles that unfolded through strikes, Pride demonstrations, and the anti-racist rallies marking three years since the crime at Pylos.

This Tuesday, 7 July, we all demonstrate together against the NATO Summit and the plans to escalate the war in Ukraine and the Middle East. On Thursday, 9 July, we take part in ANTARSYA's event on the anti-capitalist orientation of our struggles.

Next Tuesday, 14 July, public sector workers will strike again against the government's plans to abolish permanent civil-service status and revise Article 16 of the Constitution on universities. This begins a two-day mobilization that culminates the following day with an event in Athens City Hall Square entitled, "Resistance and Revolution in a World of Wars and Destruction."

As the event's press release states:

"All of us who have gone on strike and demonstrated, insisting that 'Tempi–Pylos–Palestine: No Justice No Peace,' demand a Left capable of uniting these struggles and leading them to victory. With the perspective of putting an end to the system that places profit above our lives.

Within this framework, the Socialist Workers Party is organizing a nationwide series of public meetings featuring speakers from trade unions, social movements, and the Left. So that we emerge stronger through united action and comradely dialogue."

We fight together and discuss the road to victory so that we can put an end to this government of murderers and the system it serves.
